Mentkowski Chosen To National Football Team Of The Week

Sam Mentkowski was also named to the Team of the Week during the 2015 season. selected UW-Oshkosh wide receiver Sam Mentkowski to its National Team of the Week for games played Sept. 25-Oct. 2. The Team of the Week accolade is the second for Mentkowski, who also received the tribute for his performance during the 2015 period of Sept. 28-Oct. 4.

Mentkowski matched a career-high with 10 catches for 207 yards and two touchdowns during third-ranked UW-Oshkosh's 37-20 home win over UW-Whitewater on Sept. 30.

Mentkowski gave UW-Oshkosh a 7-0 lead when he caught a pass at the Titan 42-yard line and raced to the end zone for a 96-yard pass play, the longest in UW-Oshkosh history. He then provided the Titans with a 30-20 advantage by breaking a pair of tackles and scoring on a 53-yard pass play.

Mentkowski, who compiled the fourth-highest receiving yards in UW-Oshkosh history, caught two passes for 103 yards in the first quarter, two for 17 yards in the second, three for 17 in the third and three for 70 in the fourth.

Mentkowski is the second UW-Oshkosh player to be named to the Team of the Week this season. Placekicker/punter Turner Geisthardt was chosen to the squad for the period of Aug. 28-Sept. 3.

In its 19th season, the Team of the Week showcases one player at each of the 11 offensive and defensive positions in addition to one player at placekicker, punter, return specialist and special teams.

Mentkowski and UW-La Crosse defensive tackle Brandon McLandes were the only WIAC players to receive Week 5 Team of the Week recognition. Team of the Week • Week 5 (Sept. 25-Oct. 1)
