Jonathan Stanley's (Fr. • Lindenhurst, Ill.) first collegiate goal was the match winner as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team edged Central College (Iowa), 2-1, on Saturday (Sept. 1) in Pella, Iowa.
Stanley broke a 1-1 deadlock with his unassisted scoring strike in the 57th minute (56:37) of play. Stanley's score followed an unassisted goal by Central College's Serge Sievertson in the contest's 41st minute (40:30).
UW-Oshkosh (1-0-1) took a 1-0 lead on Hans Becker's (So. • Madison) goal in the 36th minute (35:27) of action. Ryan Redmond (Jr. • Lake Elmo, Minn.) was credited with an assist on the goal.
The evenly played match featured 29 shots, including 15 by UW-Oshkosh. The Titans owned an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
UW-Oshkosh was led by the four shots of Stanley and the three of both Ryan Hanna (Jr. • Verona) and Evan Krause (Fr. • New Berlin). Central College (0-1) was paced by the six shots of Jordan Appenzeller and the four of Aleksander Glavas.
UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Nick Barry (So. • Wheaton, Ill.) saved four shots to earn his first collegiate victory. Central College goalkeeper Travis Yets made five saves in the losing effort. The match also featured three defensive saves by Central College and two by UW-Oshkosh.
It was the second meeting between the teams, with Central College posting a 1-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh in 2008.
UW-Oshkosh visits 15th-ranked and preseason Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference favorite Loras College on Tuesday (Sept. 4) in Dubuque, Iowa.
