Kevin Lewis (Jr. • Howard) earned UW-Oshkosh's lone team point as the Titans dropped an 8-1 decision to the Earlham College (Ind.) men's tennis team on Thursday (March 21) in Orlando, Fla.
Lewis picked up his victory at No. 1 singles, where he battled to edge Anton Bartashevich, 4-6, 6-1, (10-7). Bartashevich earlier teamed up with Jack Ventura-Cruess to defeat Lewis and Bobby Brooks (Jr. • Neenah) by an 8-3 score.
Earlham College (10-2) posted wins in the other two doubles contests. Phillip Locklear and Kyle Richter defeated Mike Gillespie (So. • De Pere) and Aidan Sauberlich (So. • Green Bay) in the second flight, 8-5, while Andrey Gavrilov and Brad Maisey ousted Charlie Bostwick (Fr. • Whitefish Bay) and Adam Kasper (Sr. • Franklin) in the third, 8-0.
The Quakers won the remaining five singles contests in straight sets, including 6-0, 6-1 victories by Locklear over Sauberlich in the second flight and Maisey over Alex Yang (Fr. • Milwaukee) in the fifth.
Other Earlham College individual winners were Richter in the third flight, Ventura-Cruess in the fourth and Scott Lawrence in the sixth. Richter beat Gillespie, 6-4, 6-1, while Ventura-Cruess topped Kasper, 6-2, 6-3. Lawrence defeated Kinan Al-Bitar (Jr. • Oshkosh) by a 6-1, 6-1 result.
UW-Oshkosh (6-8) concludes its four-match trip to Orlando by playing Calvin College (Mich.) on Friday (March 22).
