Nearly half of the top 25 runners belonged to UW-Oshkosh as the Titans won the Gene Davis Men's Cross Country Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 7) at the Reid Golf Course in Appleton.
UW-Oshkosh scored 42 points to defeat seven other teams, including second-place UW-Stevens Point which tallied 69. Host Lawrence University finished third with 92 points while Wisconsin Track Club placed fourth with 103 and Carroll University fifth with 123.
The Titans packed their top 11 runners within a span of 82 seconds. Cody Chadwick led UW-Oshkosh by completing the 8,000-meter course in a fourth-place time of 26:42 while Brian McKnight finished seventh in 27:05 and Dan Massey 11th in 27:15.
Lawrence University's Josh Janusiak won the race with a time of 25:43 while Viking teammate Joe Kortenhof finished third in 26:22. Former Titan Joe Zack ran unattached and placed second with a time of 25:52.
The meet's top five runners concluded with the fifth-place time of 26:44 from UW-Stevens Point's Noah Schulze.
Muffler placed 17th with a time 27:32 while Yunk ranked 18th in 27:39, Krueger 21st in 27:55, George 23rd in 28:00, Bruehl 24th in 28:03, Rindahl 25th in 28:04 and Baker 34th in 28:20.
A total of 95 runners finished the race.
UW-Oshkosh will host the Kollege Town Sports Invitational – one of the premiere NCAA Division III meets in the country – next Saturday (Oct. 14) at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.
