Nine Gymnasts Named Scholastic All-Americans

Nine members of the UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team, including a pair of repeat award winners, received Scholastic All-America honors by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W).

UW-Oshkosh's Jessica Bernardo, Taylor Ennocenti, Bailey Finin, Valene Knutson, Amanda McBrayer, Alexa Swenn, Baylee Tkaczuk, Danielle Turner and Krysten Zytniowski were all recognized for compiling or maintaining a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) during the 2016-17 academic year.

The NACGC/W honored 680 NCAA Division I, II and III gymnasts, including Ennocenti and Knutson for the second straight year. Southern Utah University and University of Alabama both had a nation-best 18 Scholastic All-Americans, while Lindenwood University (Mo.) and Oregon State University followed with 17 apiece.

All nine UW-Oshkosh gymnasts were acknowledged for surpassing the qualifying yearly GPA.

Bernardo is a freshman biology major who compiled a 3.66 GPA. She placed second and seventh in the all-around competition at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) and WIAC championships, respectively.

Ennocenti is a senior kinesiology major who recorded a 3.83 GPA while Finin is a sophomore nursing major who tallied a 3.79 GPA. Finin qualified for the NCGA Championship in the floor exercise and finished 19th on the balance beam at the WIAC Championship.

Knutson is a senior biology major who registered a 4.00 GPA while McBrayer is a junior kinesiology major who achieved a 3.55 GPA. McBrayer placed 13th on the vault and 18th on the balance beam at the WIAC Championship.

Swenn is a sophomore kinesiology major who composed a 3.63 GPA while Tkaczuk is a freshman psychology major who accumulated a 3.90 GPA. Tkaczuk was the uneven bars champion at the NCGA Championship and the balance beam champion at the WIAC Championship.

Turner is a senior early childhood major who amassed a 3.63 GPA while Zytniowski is a junior kinesiology major who gathered a 3.65 GPA.

In the team category, UW-Oshkosh head coach Lauren Karnitz's squad compiled a 3.36 GPA during the 2016-17 academic year to rank 44th among the 82 NCAA Division I, II and III schools. Southern Utah University led the nation with a 3.88 GPA while Boise State University (Utah) ranked second at 3.85 and Texas Woman's University third at 3.82.
