Four UW-Oshkosh wrestlers won their weight class at the Dan Gable Open on Saturday (Dec. 8) in Kolf Sports Center.
Nazar Kulchytskyy (Jr. • Sosnivka, Ukraine) dominated the 165-pound bracket with a trio of pins. He started with victories in 1:45 over Randy Clemens and 2:14 over Andrew Tack. In the final, Kulchytskyy pinned teammate Spencer Peterson (Fr. • Malone) after 1:58.
Dan Schiferl (Jr. • Stoughton) began his run in the 174-pound division with a 19-2 technical fall against Ben Tinkham. After a 2:55 pin over Caynen Klessing, Schiferl took down Justin Sternwies, 3-1.
At 141 pounds, Justin Schienebeck (Sr. • Butternut) posted a 21-5 technical fall over Jason Ebben and a 4-3 decision over Glenn Malecki (Fr. • Lemont, Ill.). Schienebeck was then awarded the title with an injury decision over James Warren.
Tyler Wetenkamp (So. • Manitowoc) had to capture two matches for the 197-pound crown. He booked decisions of 10-9 over Caleb Staub and 7-2 over Joe Bunne.
The Titans also had Tom Dahlke (So. • Shiocton) place second at 157 pounds and Mason McMullen (Jr. • Milwaukee) list third at 149.
UW-Oshkosh hosts rival UW-Whitewater on Jan. 4.
