UW-Oshkosh owned the winner in seven of the 10 weight classes as it defeated the UW-Platteville wrestling team, 30-12, on Friday (Jan. 25) in Kolf Sports Center. It was the final home match of the 2012-13 season for the Titans.
Cole Ferguson gave UW-Platteville (3-7, 1-4 WIAC) a quick 3-0 lead when he edged Parker Peterson (Jr. • Eden), 4-3, at 125 pounds.
UW-Oshkosh (5-6, 2-3 WIAC) then rattled off 21 straight points, including six on Nazar Kulchytskyy's (Jr. • Sosnivka, Ukraine) pin of 165-pounder Randy Wade in 1:13. The Titans also received six points on a forfeit to David Rosenau (Sr. • Van Dyne) at 133 pounds.
Other winners during UW-Oshkosh's string of answered points were Justin Schienebeck (Sr. • Butternut) at 141 pounds, Mason McMullen (Jr. • Milwaukee) at 149 and Tom Dahlke (So. • Shiocton) at 157. Schienebeck edged Jose Collado, 6-4, while McMullen slipped past Aaron Bonnell, 5-2. Dahlke won a tight 7-4 battle over Mike Uliana.
UW-Platteville won two of the next three contests, including Austin Holland's pin of 174-pounder Ben Frieler (Fr. • Eldorado) in 2:53. The Pioneers also received a 5-2 win from Abe Graziano over Tyler Wetenkamp (So. • Manitowoc) at 197 pounds.
UW-Oshkosh's remaining victories came from Jay Howarth (So. • Coleman) at 184 pounds and Brandon Clapper (So. • Plainfield) at 285. Howarth pinned Dylan DeShane in 4:44, while Clapper defeated Cody Soderstrom, 4-1.
UW-Oshkosh wrestles 16th-ranked Olivet College (Mich.), North Central College (Ill.) and Trine University (Ind.) on Saturday (Jan. 26) in Whitewater.
