The Titans' Brandon Clapper lost a tough 9-6 decision to Cody Endres
Nationally ranked UW-La Crosse recorded five of its nine victories by fall as it defeated the UW-Oshkosh wrestling team, 46-6, on Thursday (Jan. 24) in Kolf Sports Center.
Izzy Balsiger, James Bennett and Adam Sheley all pinned their opponent to give UW-La Crosse (14-3, 3-1 WIAC) an 18-0 lead. The 125-pound Balsiger opened with a pin of UW-Oshkosh's Parker Peterson (Jr. • Eden) in 3:38. Bennett followed with a pin of 133-pounder David Rosenau (Sr. • Van Dyne) in 2:01. Sheley then pinned the 141-pound Justin Schienebeck (Sr. • Butternut) in 2:20.
Brady Schrupp gave the Eagles a 22-0 lead with an 8-0 victory over Dylan Riley (Jr. • Belleville) at 149 pounds. JR Lewis then pinned Jacob Moczynski (Fr. • South Milwaukee) in 2:16 at 157 pounds.
UW-Oshkosh (4-6, 1-3 WIAC) earned its only victory when Nazar Kulchytskyy (Jr. • Sosnivka, Ukraine) pinned Derek Weinmann in 1:08 at 165 pounds. Kulchytskyy improved his career record to 81-3 (38 pins) with the win.
UW-La Crosse, ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, also received a victory by fall from Eric Twohey at 184 pounds. Twohey pinned the Dakota Daniels (Fr. • Baraboo) in 4:35.
Other UW-La Crosse winners were Mitch Anderson at 174 pounds, Tony Piechowski at 197 and Cody Endres at 285. Anderson defeated Ben Frieler (Fr. • Eldorado), 10-1, while Piechowski ousted Korey Kleinhans (So. • Oconomowoc), 15-0. Endres edged Brandon Clapper (So. • Plainfield), 9-6.
UW-Oshkosh concludes its WIAC schedule by hosting UW-Platteville on Friday (Jan. 25) in Kolf Sports Center.
