Distance Medley Relay Earns National Award

UW-Oshkosh's distance medley relay was nationally recognized in the USTFCCCA's Athlete of the Week awards on Feb. 4.

McKenzie Kelly (Sr. • New Richmond), Stephanie Jahn (Jr. • Deerfield), Kylee Verhasselt (So. • Freedom) and Christy Cazzola (Sr. • Kaukauna) broke a school record with their time of 11:43.46 at the Warhawk Classic on Saturday (Feb. 2). The previous program standard was set during 2002.

The Titans hold the best distance medley relay in the country by more than 17 seconds. It was the eighth-fastest time in NCAA Division III history.

In the event, UW-Oshkosh crossed the line 71 seconds ahead of runner-up UW-Whitewater (12:54.68).

UW-Oshkosh, ranked first in the nation, won the meet with 169 points. UW-Whitewater scored 117 for second and the University of Chicago 82 for third in the eight-team standings.

The other National Athletes of the Week were Shawn Barber (Akron) and Andrea Geubelle (Kansas) for Division I, Aron Kurzinski (Seton Hill) and Donna-Lee Hylton (Lincoln, Mo.) for Division II and Marcus Smith (UW-Whitewater) for Division III.
