Breanna Strupp's (Sr. • Slinger) career-best shot put gained her National Athlete of the Week from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Strupp booked a shot put of 51-4.5 at the Eastbay Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 16) in Stevens Point. That distance ranks fifth in NCAA Division III history. UW-Oshkosh's Robyn Jarocki holds the all-time record with a 55-11.25 from 2006.
Strupp's mark leads the nation this year by 43.5 inches. It topped the Eastbay Invitational standings by more than eight feet, as Coco Booker (Saint Mary's, Minn.) placed second at 43-1.5.
In the weight throw, Strupp placed third with a mark of 54-5.5. Teammate Samantha Loew captured first place at 57-3.75.
UW-Oshkosh won the 12-team meet with 138 points. UW-Stevens Point placed second with 111, while UW-Eau Claire listed third at 98.5, St. Norbert College fourth at 62 and Carroll University fifth at 47.
Of the 12 NCAA Division III Athletes of the Week, UW-Oshkosh has been represented five times. Christy Cazzola received the award on Jan. 28 and Feb. 11, while the women's distance medley relay was honored on Feb. 4. Nick Baatz was named the men's recipient on Jan. 14.
Other National Athletes of the Week for Feb. 18 were Chris O'Hare (Tulsa) and Felisha Johnson (Indiana State) in Division I, Micah Chelimo (Alaska-Anchorage) and Katie Nageotte (Ashland) in Division II and Tyler Hannan (Rose-Hulman) in Division III.
