Titans Can’t Lose At Pizza Hut Classic
UW-Oshkosh went a perfect 12-0 in sets to sweep all four opponents at the Pizza Hut Women's Volleyball Classic on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 14-15) in Oshkosh.
The Titans (11-5) posted 3-0 victories over Concordia University Wisconsin and Martin Luther College (Minn.) on Friday. UW-Oshkosh was never really threatened during Saturday's 3-0 wins over Ripon College and Wisconsin Lutheran College.
In the opener, the Titans took down Concordia with scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-15. Heidi Gors (Sr. • Madison) and Katelyn Malcheski (Fr. • Little Suamico) each accounted for nine kills in the victory, while Robyn Eggert (Jr. • Woodridge, Ill.) made 20 digs. The Falcons hit just .018 for the match, including .000 in the second and third sets.
UW-Oshkosh started on fire against Martin Luther, rolling to a 25-12, 25-17, 25-21 decision. The Titans used a balanced attack with nine kills from Brianna Wagner (Fr. • Sheboygan) and six from Malcheski. Morgan Liebetrau (Sr. • West Bend) set up 27 points and contributed four blocks. Martin Luther was led by 14 digs and nine kills from Rebecca Engelbrecht.
Achieving their highest hitting percentage of the weekend (.317), the Titans clobbered Ripon, 25-15, 25-18, 25-16. Wagner led the way with 14 kills on just 22 attacks. Liebetrau also totaled 22 assists and hit .600. Karlye Wehner topped the Red Hawks with seven kills.
The final contest ended with a 25-13, 25-19, 25-19 UW-Oshkosh triumph over Wisconsin Lutheran. Eggert dug out 24 shots, in addition to 11 kills by Wagner. The Titans compiled 11 blocks and seven aces overall, after hitting .433 in the first set. Wisconsin Lutheran committed 22 hitting errors while receiving 10 kills from Erin Greenfield.
Gors was named the Most Outstanding Player for her 25 kills and eight digs in the event. UW-Oshkosh also had Eggert (64 digs) selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Wagner totaled 38 kills in the four matches, as Liebetrau booked 97 assists and Mandy Trautmann (Fr. • Seymour) 41 digs.
The Titans open the WIAC slate on Wednesday (Sept. 19) at UW-Platteville.
