Titans Register Five-Set Win Over Yellowjackets

UW-Oshkosh won its second straight five-set match with a 3-2 victory over the UW-Superior women's volleyball team on Friday (Oct. 5) in Superior.

The Titans, who defeated Wartburg College (Iowa) in five sets on Sept. 29, bounced back from a rough start to defeat the Yellowjackets in scores of 15-25, 25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 15-9.

UW-Superior (14-9/0-4 WIAC) jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the first set and coasted to the 10-point win. In the second set, UW-Oshkosh (13-10/1-2 WIAC) scored five consecutive points to take a 12-11 lead. Following ties at 15, 16 and 23, UW-Oshkosh ended the set with two straight points.

UW-Oshkosh fell behind 7-4 in the third set, but counted eight of the next nine points to take a 12-8 lead. The Titans captured the set as they scored nine of the last 11 points.

In the fourth set, UW-Oshkosh built leads of 7-4, 13-7 and 18-10. The Yellowjackets battled back to tie the score at 20 before ending the set with five straight points.

UW-Oshkosh staged a late scoring run to take the fifth and deciding set. The Titans counted nine of the contest's last 11 points to erase a 7-6 deficit.

UW-Oshkosh hit .202 for the match, including .429 in the third set. UW-Superior hit .205 for the game, including .452 in the first set.

Katelyn Malcheski (Fr. • Little Suamico) had 17 kills and five digs for the Titans, while Larissa Krumplitsch (Sr. • Appleton) added 12 kills, four digs and three service aces. UW-Oshkosh also received 31 digs from Robyn Eggert (Jr. • Woodridge, Ill.), six kills, 43 assists and 21 digs from Morgan Cizauskas (Fr. • Mukwonago) and five kills, 14 digs and two assists from Jordyn Bratel (Jr. • Milwaukee).

Keely Deadrick had a big match for UW-Superior as she totaled four kills, 49 assists, four service aces and 21 digs. The Yellowjackets also obtained 16 kills and nine digs from Nikki Grossen, 12 kills and 18 digs from Kitty Tynen and 12 kills and two digs from Salann Gilbert.

UW-Oshkosh journeys to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 6).
