The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team remained in the chase for a WIAC Tournament berth by defeating UW-Stout, 3-0, on Friday (Oct. 26) in Kolf Sports Center.
UW-Oshkosh (19-16, 3-4 WIAC) took the match in set scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-23 for its 16th sweep of the season. The Titans can guarantee a spot in next week's six-team WIAC Tournament by defeating UW-River Falls in Kolf Sports Center or with a UW-Platteville loss to UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 27).
UW-Oshkosh rattled off nine straight points to take an 11-2 lead in the first set. UW-Stout pulled to within 22-20, but the Titans ended the set by counting three of the last four points.
In the second set, UW-Stout scored five straight points to build a 12-9 lead. The Titans battled back by marking nine of the next 11 points to go in front, 18-14. UW-Stout got as close as 19-16, but UW-Oshkosh responded with two straight points to inch away.
The third set featured scores that were tied 15 times. UW-Stout won four straight points to grab a 23-20 lead, but UW-Oshkosh countered with five consecutive points to take the set.
UW-Stout out-hit UW-Oshkosh, .239-.138. The Blue Devils (15-12, 3-4 WIAC), who had their four-match winning steak end, were hampered by 11 service and eight receiving errors.
Larissa Krumplitsch (Sr. • Appleton) had 11 kills and Heidi Gors (Sr. • Madison) 10 to lead the Titans. UW-Oshkosh also received 32 assists and six digs from Morgan Liebetrau (Sr. • West Bend), eight digs from Danielle Stoppenbach (So. • Burlington), 16 digs from Robyn Eggert (Jr. • Woodridge, Ill.) and seven digs and three service aces from Alison Tomcyzk (Jr. • Oshkosh).
The 11 kills of Laura Reiter and the eight kills of both Morgan Denny and Kate Mikutowski led UW-Stout. The Blue Devils also acquired 27 assists from Karley Wiensch and 12 digs from Gabby Mastronardo.
