UW-Oshkosh's Devan Gertschen was selected as one of the two WIAC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week Award recipients for meets held Feb. 5-11.
Gertschen, the league's top field performer, leaped to this season's third-highest pole vault measurement in the NCAA Division III with his winning performance at the Midwest ELITE Invitational held Feb. 10 in Whitewater.
Gertschen recorded a first-place height of 16-4 3/4 to defeat 24 other contestants, including UW-La Crosse's Wes Evansen who finished second at 16-0.
UW-Oshkosh finished third among the eight competing teams with 84.5 points. UW-La Crosse scored 140 points to claim the team title while UW-Whitewater placed second with 97.5, Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) fourth with 84, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 77 and Benedictine University (Ill.) sixth with 59.
Darin Lau of UW-Eau Claire was named the WIAC Track Athlete of the Week.
