The seventh through ninth-place runners belonged to UW-Oshkosh as the Titans finished second at the four-team UW-Oshkosh Men's Cross Country Open held Friday (Oct. 19) in Whitewater.
The meet was originally scheduled to be held at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, but due to poor course conditions caused by recent weather, the meet was relocated to UW-Whitewater's home facility.
NCAA Division II UW-Parkside owned the top six runners and won the meet with a perfect score of 15 points. Jacob Petri led the Rangers with a winning time of 26:45 on the 8,000-meter course while Ramon Romero finished second in 27:00.
UW-Parkside also had Trevor Long finish third among the meet's 65 runners with a time of 27:09, Joey Eterno fourth in 27:18, Hayden Fredrickson fifth in 27:38 and Donny Knapp sixth in 27:43.
UW-Oshkosh finished second with 51 points as Parker Scheld placed seventh with a time of 27:44, Noah O'Neill eighth in 27:48 and Andrew Rathkamp ninth in 27:54. Also contributing to the Titans' team score were Spencer Muffler, who finished 13th with a time of 28:13, and Bob Szymanski, who placed 14th in 28:19.
UW-Stevens Point finished third in the team standings with 86 points and UW-Platteville fourth with 101.
UW-Oshkosh's other runners in the top 40 were 17th-place Skyler Yunk (28:38), 20th-place Jack Rindahl (28:42), 21st-place Brian McKnight (28:46), 23rd-place Zachary Molland (28:49), 25th-place Collin Borazo (28:52), 31st-place Henry Laste (29:05), 33rd-place Andrew Strasser (29:13), 34th-place Aaron Dorsey (29:15) and 40th-place Bennett Krueger (29:44).
UW-Oshkosh rested several runners in preparation for next Saturday's (Oct. 27) WIAC Championship in Colfax. The Titans are a 10-time WIAC champion, with their most recent title in 2011.
