Young Named To NCAA All-America Team

UW-Oshkosh’s Jennifer Young (So. • Salem) has been named as a second team selection on the National Golf Coaches Association’s (NGCA) 2005 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf All-America Team.

The NGCA selected 10 players to its NCAA Division III All-America squad, including Young who was voted to the second team for the second consecutive season.

Methodist College (N.C.), which captured this year's NCAA Division III title, had three players receive All-America accolades, including first team selections Katie Dick and Charlotte Williams. The Lady Monarchs also had Heather Martin named to the second team.

Joining Dick and Williams on the first team were Sarah Gates of DePauw University (Ind.), Holly Glover of University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) and Maggie Loney of UW-Eau Claire.

Kelly Cramp of McDaniel College (Md.), Erin Dohlman of Wartburg College (Iowa) and Amanda Tuskey of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor joined Martin and Young on the second team.

Young, UW-Oshkosh’s first two-time All-American, placed 18th at the 2005 NCAA Division III Championship held May 10-13 in Southern Pines, N.C. She averaged 80.4 strokes per round during the 2004-05 season and captured the individual title at the Hickory Point Invitational held April 22-23 in Decatur, Ill. Young also finished second at the UW Eau Claire Invitational held Sept. 4-5 in Eau Claire and third at the UW-Whitewater Invitational held Sept. 25-26 in Avalon.

In 2004, Young finished 34th at the NCAA Division III Championship to help UW-Oshkosh to a fourth-place standing. She averaged 82.3 strokes per round that season and finished first at the Carthage College Invitational.

Young Places 18th, Treadwell 33rd At NCAA Championship

UW-Oshkosh's Jennifer Young (So. • Salem) finished 18th and Cheryl Treadwell (Jr. • Brookfield) 33rd at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship held Tuesday through Friday (May 10-13) at The Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.

Young placed 18th in the 72-hole tournament with 334 shots, 46 over par. Young posted 18-hole scores of 81, 93, 83 and 77. She finished 34th at the event a year ago.

Treadwell took 344 shots, 56 over par, for her 33rd-place finish. Treadwell recorded 18-hole scores of 83, 92, 84 and 85. She finished 20th at the NCAA Division III Championship in 2003 and 22nd in 2004.

Charlotte Williams of Methodist College (N.C.) claimed the individual title with 304 shots, 16 over par. Williams compiled 18-hole scores of 76, 73, 76 and 79. Holly Glover of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) finished second among the 60 golfers with 307 shots, while Katie Dick of Methodist College finished third with 309.

Methodist College led from start to finish to capture its sixth straight NCAA Division III team title. The Monarchs dominated the tournament with consistency, shooting 18-hole scores of 318, 313, 321 and 320. Methodist College took first place with 1,272 shots, while the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor finished second with 1,284. DePauw University (Ind.) and UW-Eau Claire placed third in the 10-team event with 1,337 shots.

UW-Oshkosh finished fourth in the team standings at last year’s championship and fifth in 2003.

Treadwell, Young Selected To Participate In NCAA Championship

UW-Oshkosh golfers Cheryl Treadwell (Jr. • Brookfield) and Jennifer Young (So. • Salem) have been selected to play in the 2005 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship in Southern Pines, N.C. The 72-hole tournament will be held Tuesday through Friday (May 10-13) at The Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club.

The NCAA picked 10 teams, two teams from each of the five regions, for the championship. In addition, 10 individuals not from selected teams also qualified for the event.

Treadwell is making her third appearance at the NCAA Division III Championship after finishing 20th in 2003 and 22nd in 2004. Young is participating in her second NCAA Division III Championship after finishing 36th in 2004.

Young, a 2004 NCAA Division III All-America second team selection, has averaged 79.38 strokes in her eight 18-hole rounds this season. Treadwell has averaged 82 strokes during her nine 18-hole rounds.

Other individual selections to this year’s championship were Kelly Cramp of McDaniel College (Md.), Kelli Groff of Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), Jen Hudson of Rhodes College (Tenn.), Emily Lau of the University of Puget Sound (Wash.), Erin Smith of Anderson University (Ind.), Taryn Rechlicz of Edgewood College, Charla Speer of Franklin College (Ind.) and Jennifer Stork of Buena Vista University (Iowa).

Selected for the team competition were DePauw University (Ind.), Illinois Wesleyan University, McMurry University (Texas), five-time defending champion Methodist College (N.C.), Mount Holyoke College (Mass.), St. Mary’s College (Ind.), University of St. Thomas (Minn.), University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas), UW-Eau Claire and Wartburg College (Iowa).

UW-Oshkosh finished fourth in the team standings at last year’s championship and fifth in 2003.

Young First, Titans Fourth At Hickory Point Invitational

Jennifer Young (So. • Salem) finished first in the individual competition as the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team placed fourth at the Hickory Point Invitational held Friday and Saturday (April 22-23) at the Hickory Point Golf Club in Decatur, Ill.

Young captured the individual title with 165 shots, 21 over par. She posted 18-hole rounds of 80 and 85. Cheryl Treadwell (Jr. • Brookfield) of UW-Oshkosh and Jana Mosesson of Lindenwood University (Mo.) finished second with 167 shots, 23 over par. Treadwell recorded 18-hole rounds of 82 and 85.

UW-Oshkosh also had Liz Buske (Fr. • Stoughton) finish 38th with 194 shots, Andrea Thorpe (Jr. • Ashwaubenon) 41st with 196 and Kate Barber (Fr. • Oshkosh) 42nd with 197.

St. Ambrose University (Iowa) and Truman State University (Mo.) totaled 713 shots, 137 over par, to share the team title. Lindenwood University finished third in the 13-team meet with 714 shots, while UW-Oshkosh placed fourth with 715 and Illinois College fifth with 742.

Titans Finish Third At Augustana College Invite

Cheryl Treadwell (Jr. • Brookfield) and Jennifer Young (So. • Salem) recorded top-seven finishes as the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team placed third at the Augustana College Invitational held Thursday (April 21) at the Emeis Golf Club in Davenport, Iowa.

St. Ambrose University (Iowa) won the 18-hole tournament with 337 strokes, 49 over par. UW-Platteville finished second with 343 strokes, while UW-Oshkosh placed third with 345. A total of eight teams competed in the event.

Taryn Rechlicz of Edgewood College and Linda Engelke of UW-Platteville both took 78 shots, six over par, to tie for first place in the individual competition.

Treadwell paced UW-Oshkosh by finishing third with 79 strokes, seven over par. The Titans also had Young finish seventh with 84 strokes, Kate Barber (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Andrea Thorpe (Jr. • Ashwaubenon) 19th with 91 and Liz Buske (Fr. • Stoughton) 29th with 95.

Titans Rank Ninth At Illinois Wesleyan Invite

Jennifer Young (So. • Salem) was the top UW-Oshkosh finisher as the Titans placed ninth at the Illinois Wesleyan University Women's Golf Invitational held Friday and Saturday (April 15-16) at the Ironwood Golf club in Normal, Ill.

DePauw University (Ind.) took the team title in the 36-hole event with 601 strokes, while St. Mary's College (Ind.) finished second at 615 and UW-Eau Claire third at 618. UW-Oshkosh placed ninth in the 20-team tournament with 674 strokes.

Maggie Loney of UW-Eau Claire and Sarah Gates of DePauw University counted 144 strokes each to tie for the individual championship. Stephanie Simmerman of St. Mary's College finished third with 148 strokes.

Young took 149 strokes to tie Lindsay Amore of DePauw University for fourth place. Young shot 73 times over 18 holes on Friday and 76 on Saturday.

UW-Oshkosh also had Cheryl Treadwell (Jr. • Brookfield) finish 39th with 167 strokes, Liz Buske (Fr. • Stoughton) 46th with 169, Andrea Thorpe (Jr. • Ashwaubenon) 100th with 193 and Kate Barber (Fr. • Oshkosh) 103rd with 194.

Titans Finish Sixth At WIAC Championship

The UW-Oshkosh women's golf team was unable to overcome the absence of its top two players and finished sixth at the WIAC Championship held Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 9-10) at the Stevens Point Country Club in Stevens Point.

UW-Eau Claire compiled 669 strokes, 85 over par, during the 36-hole tournament to capture its third WIAC title. UW-Platteville finished second with 692 strokes, while UW-River Falls placed third with 693, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 722, UW-Whitewater fifth with 739, UW-Oshkosh sixth with 745 and UW-Superior seventh with 803. UW-Oshkosh entered the meet as the two-time defending champion.

UW-Oshkosh performed at the WIAC Championship without Jennifer Young (So. • Salem) and Cheryl Treadwell (Jr. • Brookfield), players who finished second and third at the 2003 league tournament, respectively. Young missed the meet due to an injury, while Treadwell had a previously scheduled family commitment.

Liz Buske (Fr. • Stoughton) recorded UW-Oshkosh's highest finish by placing seventh with 172 strokes, 26 over par. The Titans also had Kate Barber (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Janene Elfering (So. • Salem) place 24th with 190 strokes each and Andrea Thorpe (Jr. • Ashwaubenon) 30th with 193.

UW-Eau Claire claimed two of the top three individual efforts as Maggie Loney secured medalist honors with 160 strokes, 14 over par. Ellen Berndt of UW-River Falls finished second with 162 strokes and Meghan Sobotta of UW-Eau Claire third with 165.

Berndt received the WIAC's Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award, while Jeff Berkhof of UW-River Falls was voted the WIAC Coach of the Year.

Titans Place Fifth In Own Invitational

Cheryl Treadwell (Jr. • Brookfield) and Liz Buske (Fr. • Stoughton) placed in the top 10 individually as the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team finished fifth in its own invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 2-3) at the Whispering Springs Golf Club in Fond du Lac.

UW-Eau Claire captured the team title in the 36-hole event with 675 strokes, 99 over par, while St. Mary's College (Ind.) finished second with 683 and UW-Platteville third with 707.

The team standings were completed by fourth-place UW-River Falls with 721 strokes, fifth-place UW-Oshkosh with 725, sixth-place UW-Whitewater with 747, seventh-place UW-Stevens Point with 752 and eighth-place UW-Superior with 946.

UW-Oshkosh was led by Treadwell, who finished third in the individual competition with 163 strokes. Buske joined Treadwell in the top 10 by finishing 10th with 172 strokes. Maggie Loney of UW-Eau Claire took first place with 159 strokes, 15 over par, while Ahna Hendrickson of UW-Platteville finished second with 162.

UW-Oshkosh also had Andrea Thorpe (Jr. • Ashwaubenon) finish 27th with 194 strokes, Janene Elfering (So. • Salem) 31st with 197 and Kate Barber (Fr. • Oshkosh) 32nd with 198. A total of 44 golfers competed in the meet.

The Titans conclude their fall season by competing at the WIAC Championship this weekend in Stevens Point. The 36-hole event will be played Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 9-10) at the Stevens Point Country Club. UW-Oshkosh has won the tournament the past two seasons.

Titans Place Third At UW-Whitewater Invitational

Led by three top-six individual finishes the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team placed third at the UW-Whitewater Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 25-26) at the Prairie Woods Golf Course in Avalon.

UW-Eau Claire won the 36-hole event with 645 strokes, 69 over par, while Illinois Wesleyan University finished second with 657. UW-Oshkosh finished third among the 15 competing teams with 659 strokes, UW-River Falls fourth with 694 and UW-Platteville fifth with 704.

Jennifer Young (So. • Salem) paced UW-Oshkosh by finishing second with 157 strokes, 13 over par. The Titans also had Cheryl Treadwell (Jr. • Brookfield) finish fifth with 161 strokes and Liz Buske (Fr. • Stoughton) sixth with 163. Jessica Thompson of UW-Eau Claire took the individual championship with 155 strokes.

UW-Oshkosh had three other golfers take part in the meet, Kate Barber (Fr. • Oshkosh), who finished 28th with 178 strokes, Janene Elfering (So. • Salem), who placed 46th with 189 strokes, and Andrea Thorpe (Jr. • Ashwaubenon), who listed 64th with 198 strokes. There were 95 golfers competing in the tournament.

Titans Finish Fifth At Carthage College Invitational

Cheryl Treadwell (Jr. • Brookfield) shot an 81 to place third individually as the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team finished fifth at the Carthage College Invitational held Friday (Sept. 24) at the Brighton Dale Golf Course in Kansasville.

Illinois Wesleyan University took first place in the 18-hole event with 339 strokes, while Illinois College finished second among the 12 competing teams with 342. The top-five teams were rounded out by third-place UW-Eau Claire with 344 strokes, fourth-place UW-River Falls with 347 and fifth-place UW-Oshkosh with 348.

Jessica Thompson of UW-Eau Claire claimed the individual title with 78 strokes, six over par. Jill Franz of Robert Morris College (Ill.) finished second with 79 strokes and Treadwell and Kim Nelson of Illinois College third with 81.

The Titans also had Jennifer Young (So. • Salem) finish 10th with 84 shots, Liz Buske (Fr. • Stoughton) 19th with 88, Kate Barber (Fr. • Oshkosh) 42nd with 95, Andrea Thorpe (Jr. • Ashwaubenon) 51st with 98 and Janene Elfering (So. • Salem) 68th with 104. A total of 83 golfers participated in the meet.

Titans Rank 10th At Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational

Jennifer Young (So. • Salem) was the top individual finisher as the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team listed 10th at the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 18-19) at the Ironwood Country Club in Normal, Ill.

Young had 18-hole rounds of 76 and 74 strokes to finish fourth in the individual competition with 150 shots. Sarah Gates of DePauw University (Ind.) took medalist honors with 145 strokes, one over par.

UW-Oshkosh also had Cheryl Treadwell (Jr. • Brookfield) finish 27th with 160 strokes, Liz Buske (Fr. • Stoughton) 48th with 165, Kate Barber (Fr. • Oshkosh) 89th with 175, Janene Elfering (So. • Salem) 99th with 178 and Andrea Thorpe (Jr. • Ashwaubenon) 124th with 189. There were 146 golfers competing in the tournament.

DePauw University captured the team title with 613 strokes, 37 over par. St. Mary's College (Ind.) finished second in the 24-team event with 614 strokes, while the University of Southern Indiana placed third with 623, Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville fourth with 626 and Illinois Wesleyan University fifth with 629. UW-Oshkosh totaled 649 shots for its 10th-place finish.

Titans Place Third At Knox College Invitational

Cheryl Treadwell (Jr. • Brookfield) finished fourth and Jennifer Young (So. • Salem) sixth to lead the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team to a third-place ranking at the Knox College Invitational held Friday (Sept. 10) at the Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg, Ill.

Illinois Wesleyan University took the team title with 334 strokes, 46 over par. UW-Eau Claire finished second in the 15-team event with 339 shots, UW-Oshkosh third with 347, Carthage College fourth with 364 and Illinois College fifth with 366.

Treadwell took 81 shots during the 18-hole tournament to pace UW-Oshkosh, while Young took 84. Maggie Loney of UW-Eau Claire claimed the individual title with 78 strokes, six over par.

UW-Oshkosh also had Liz Buske (Fr. • Stoughton) finish 12th with 88 strokes, Janene Elfering (So. • Stoughton) 32nd with 94, Andrea Thorpe (Jr. • Ashwaubenon) 40th with 96 and Kate Barber (Fr. • Oshkosh) 52nd with 99. A total of 102 golfers took part in the event.

Titans Finish Sixth At UW-Eau Claire Invitational

Jennifer Young (So. • Salem) placed second in the individual competition as the UW-Oshkosh women's golf team opened its 2004-05 season with a sixth-place finish at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 4-5) at the Wild Ridge Golf Course in Eau Claire.

Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) captured the team title with 665 strokes, 85 over par. The University of St. Thomas (Minn.) finished second in the 13-team event with 670 strokes, while UW-Eau Claire listed third with 679, Illinois Wesleyan University fourth with 682, Carthage College fifth with 689 and UW-Oshkosh sixth with 694. The Titans were in seventh place after Friday's competition with 344 strokes.

Young, who received NCAA Division III All-America honors a year ago, finished second in the individual standings by totaling 159 strokes, 14 over par. UW-Eau Claire's Maggie Loney took the individual championship with 155 strokes, while UW-Stevens Point's Susie Lewis finished third with 162.

UW-Oshkosh's Liz Buske (Fr. • Stoughton) finished 12th in the field of 89 golfers with 170 strokes, while the Titans' Cheryl Treadwell (Jr. • Brookfield) placed 18th with 171 strokes and Andrea Thorpe (Jr. • Ashwaubenon) 63rd with 194. UW-Oshkosh also had Janene Elfering (So. • Salem) finish 74th with 201 shots and Kate Barber (Fr. • Oshkosh) 78th with 205.
