Lauren Wrensch won two events, including the long jump with a record-breaking performance, to lead the UW-Oshkosh women's track & field team to a first-place finish in its own Early Bird Invitational held Saturday (Dec. 1) in Kolf Sports Center.
Wrensch registered a winning measurement of 19-3 1/4 in the long jump to surpass the previous records of 18-10 for UW-Oshkosh and 19-1 1/4 for Kolf Sports Center. Tara (Harding) Jaeger set the old UW-Oshkosh record with her 1995 distance while Margie Tremeer of UW-Milwaukee established the former Kolf Sports Center record with her 1983 effort. Tremeer later had her Kolf Sports Center record tied by both Katie Brees of Central College (Iowa) and Kim Jones of Wheaton College (Ill.) in 2001.
Wrensch earned her other event title by winning the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.60 seconds.
UW-Oshkosh scored 211.5 points to defeat six other teams in its season-opening meet, including Carroll University, which finished second with 122 points, and Concordia University Wisconsin, which listed third with 47.
Wisconsin Lutheran College placed fourth in the team competition with 43.5 points while Carthage College finished fifth with 36, Edgewood College sixth with 27 and Cardinal Stritch University seventh with five.
UW-Oshkosh achieved its overall scoring value with the help of 27 points in the 200-meter dash and 23 in the 60-meter hurdles. The Titans had four place winners in each event.
UW-Oshkosh won six other events, including the triple jump by Volz with a skip of 38-0 and the pole vault by Megan Leahy with a height of 10-11 1/2.
The Titans also received winning times of 8.22 seconds in the 60-meter dash by Taylor Pralle, 2:23.66 in the 800-meter run by Breanna Van Den Plas, 5:06.46 in the mile run by Amanda Van Den Plas and 17:50.67 in the 5,000-meter run by Evlyn Noone.
UW-Oshkosh had five individuals add third-place finishes as Leahy ran to a time of 8.41 seconds in the 60-meter dash, Lynch-Youngman leaped to a distance of 16-3 1/4 in the long jump, Erica Lorenz marked a height of 4-9 in the high jump, Danae Prange skipped to a measurement of 33-7 1/4 in the triple jump and Theresa Richards sprung to a peak of 9-5 3/4 in the pole vault.
Other Titans finishing fourth were Lynch-Youngman with a time of 8.50 seconds in the 60-meter dash, Kahley Logan with a throw of 38-8 3/4 in the shot put and Alexis Reichardt with a time of 5:34.32 in the mile run.
Contributing the remaining fifth-place finishes for UW-Oshkosh were Allie Marineau in the 20-pound weight throw with a mark of 50-0 1/2, Melissa Srnka in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:36.51 and Jenna Trione in the high jump with a height of 4-9.
UW-Oshkosh also had Mikaela Zolecki finish sixth in the shot put with a distance of 37-8 3/4 and eighth in the 20-pound weight throw with a cast of 45-3 1/2.
Other UW-Oshkosh eighth-place finishes were owned by Lorenz in the long jump with a leap of 15-0 1/2 and Reichardt in the high jump with a measurement of 4-9.
The Titans had a pair of place winners in the 1,600-meter relay. The group of Endries, Lynch-Youngman, Prange and Richards finished second with a time of 4:18.70 while the quartet of Denu, Huth, Lorenz and Tempesta listed third in 4:29.21.
UW-Oshkosh concludes its December schedule by competing at Friday's (Dec. 7) Olivet Nazarene University Holiday Invitational in Bourbonnais, Ill.
