Cheyenne Moore ranked ninth among 163 runners as the UW-Oshkosh women's cross country team began its 2017 season with an eighth-place finish at the Vic Godfrey Open on Saturday (Sept. 9) in Somers.
Moore, who finished 45th at last year's NCAA Division III Championship, completed the 5,000-meter Vic Godfrey Open course with a time of 18:26.
Besides Moore, UW-Oshkosh also received scoring efforts from Ashton Keene, Hannah Lohrenz, Cammy Garvelink and Elizabeth Reddeman. Keene placed 49th with a time of 19:37 while Lohrenz finished 66th in 20:00, Garvelink 76th in 20:10 and Reddeman 78th in 20:13. The Titans' Reece Matheson and Hannah Thorn earned top-100 listings with their 91st-place time of 20:42 and 100th-place performance of 20:54, respectively.
NCAA Division I Marquette University owned four of the top seven runners and won the team title with 28 points. Division II Northern Michigan University finished second to the Golden Eagles with 84 points while Division III University of Chicago (Ill.) placed third with 99 and Division I schools UW-Milwaukee and DePaul University (Ill.) fourth and fifth with 114 and 134 points, respectively. UW-Oshkosh ranked eighth among the 12 teams with 216 points.
Jessica Parker of Marquette University claimed the individual title with a time of 17:48 while teammate and sister Jennifer Parker finished second in 17:52. Khia Kurtenbach of the University of Chicago placed third with a time of 17:52 while Kameron Burmeister of Northern Michigan University finished fourth in 17:56 and Emily Byrd of Division II Michigan Technical University fifth in 17:57.
Also competing at the Vic Godrey Open for the Titans were Paige Schilling, Erica Liesen, Tayah Cunningham, Jessica Stamn and Allison Chen. Schilling finished 105th with a time of 21:07 while Liesen placed 106th in 21:07, Cunningham 111th in 21:12, Stamn 123rd in 21:43 and Chen 126th in 21:49.
UW-Oshkosh will run at UW-Whitewater's Tom Hoffman Invitational next Saturday (Sept. 16).
